Overview Of San Quentin

NoLimit City have been sentenced to 25 to life at the maximum-security prison San Quentin, California, their crime? Creating a slot game so outrageous, you have the potential to win 150,000 times your bet with the Psycho Manhunt! This game needs no further introduction, let us get our orange suits on and get straight to the oldest and last Death Row prison left in California.

Slot Description

San Quentin is a five reel slot that utilises NoLimits xWays mechanics which is quite hard to explain in text but very easy to get used to when playing. Basically you can have up to 46,656 ways during the base game and an insane 13,189,257,216 ways during the lockdown spins which is considerably more than Bonanza’s 117,649 ways, 112,106 times more to be exact! The potential is absolutely staggering.

During the base game the idea is to land the lookout tower scatters to get the lockdown free spins, 3, 4 or 5 scatters will trigger Lockdown Spins with either 1, 2 or 3 Jumping Wilds respectively to start the bonus with. The Enhancer reels will be open on each reel that had a scatter land on it and will stay active throughout the whole feature, with the ability to add additional Jumping Wilds and spins by landing another scatter on a locked reel.

On the top and bottom of each reel there is locked enhancer cell positions, when these are triggered to open they may reveal either 1 of the top 5 paying symbols, a Wild symbol, a Razor Split or an xWays symbol. The Razor split will split all regular positions into double and landing on the top and bottom enhancers will split them twice. xWays symbol will all reveal the same regular paying symbols stacked at 4 symbols high.

The amount of spins will be decided before the start of the feature, being revealed in the enhancer cells along with an additional multiplier on a random convict premium symbol. The enhancer cells are the locked reel positions above and below all reels for reference.

As you can see below I got 9 free spins with 1 jumping wild as it was only a 3 scatter trigger. I got Crazy Joe as my random enhanced symbol, 5 of him landed so I now have 5x Crazy Joe symbols for the duration of the bonus with the first and last reel still locked.

During the free spins I landed a scatter on the first reel so I got another Jumping Wild along with a few extra spins, the jumping wilds can double there starting multiplier of 1x if a razor split lands above or below in the enhancer cell. In the main game, Split Wilds can land on any reel and the Split Wild will split all the regular symbols on the same reel, but not itself.

Jumping Wilds will jump to a random regular reel position for each spin. When a Jumping Wild lands on a reel with a Razor Split enhancer it will double its multiplier, which will stay for the remainder of the feature. The maximum multiplier for a Jumping Wild is 512x. Yes, you read that correctly, 512x Wilds!

The total win for my test feature was 140x stake and it really landed nothing worth noting which again enforces this slots ridiculous win potential. I notice below that Beefy Dick has Rocknrolla’s thug life glasses on, who is Beefy Dick you ask?

San Quentin Paytable

The paytable in San Quentin is dynamic and changes with your stake which is how all paytables should be, starting with the lower paying symbols we have the Green loo roll, Blue handcuffs and the Purple shank paying 1.5x your stake for a full way. The Yellow Zippo and Red soap bar pay slightly more at 2x per way.

Now moving on to the premium symbols we have Crazy Joe in the Green paying 2.5x for a full way, Biker Bill in the Blue pays 3x, Purple Loco Luis pays 3.5x, Heinrich 3rd in Orange pays 4x and finally the one and only Red Beefy Dick pays 5x for a full way!

Final Thoughts On San Quentin xWays

San Quentin xWays has an RTP of 96.03% if you aren’t playing the bonus buys, if you are the RTP is slightly higher at 96.26% for the 3 and 4 scatter bonus buys and 96.95% for the 5 scatter bonus buys. These cannot be played in the UK and I’m kind of glad as the 5 scatter bonus buy costs 2000x your stake! The other two bonuses are 100x and 400x to purchase respectively. The volatility is listed as Extreme which it certainly is and to prove this the maximum capped win is 150,000x your stake in any one bonus game, 40,000x more than Dead Or Alive 2!

Would I play this again, you’re damn right I would, the graphics, the music, the innovative game mechanics, everything is absolutely perfect and the theme is full of banter along with its hard image, look out for “F*@k You Money” on a mega win, that’s a John Goodman quote from Rounders, it really is an impressive new game and you can tell it’s not been rushed as the tiny details surface throughout a session.

As always, thanks for reading this especially long review and you’ve still not had enough, I’m going to link a replay to a 57,501x win on this slot so you can see the mechanics in action!
