Hacksaw Gaming’s latest release is set in a post apocalypse zombie filled nightmare where crazed clowns and walking corpses dominate the scenery. But that’s not all, somewhere out there in the derelict fairground is the mad scientist who created these freaks of nature, but will he visit and switch things around for you!?
Slot Description
Rotten is a 6 reel, 5 row slot with 35 fixed paylines. The game has 2 Free Spin features and a Switch feature which is present in both bonus rounds and also the base game.
- Switch – Land the Switch scatter symbol to activate Switchspins. Switchspins are a special type of re-spin that turn selected symbols into either the top paying symbol or the wild symbols. This feature can award 1-10 re-spins and you can land more Switch symbols during the re-spins awarding extra symbols to be switched!
- Mad Scientist – Land 3 Mad Scientist scatters to enter the Mad Scientist bonus which awards 10 Free Spins.
- Total Takeover – Land 3 Total Takeover scatters to enter the Total Takeover to enter the Total Takeover bonus which also awards 10 Free Spins.
Upon landing 3 Mad Scientist Scatters the game launches into the Free Spin mode where you start with 10 free spins. During these spins you can land a Switchspin scatter which will choose random symbols to be replaced, after the re-spin they reset and are randomly picked again the next time it re-spins. You can also land the Total Takeover scatters in this bonus and landing 3 will award the feature once the Mad Scientist spins are finished. This bonus cannot be re-triggered.
Upon landing 3 Total Takeover scatters the game launches into its most volatile Free Spin mode where you start with 10 Free Spins but this time the symbols don’t reset after each Switch re-spin giving you the opportunity to fill the meter above the reels with every symbol and be guaranteed a full screen of either the top symbol or the wild symbol which would pay 14,00x stake or 1,750x stake respectively per re-spin! You can also re-trigger this bonus by landing 3 more scatters and each time you will be awarded an extra 4 Free Spins, this can be especially valuable if you happen to have a decent amount of symbols collected.

The paytable in Rotten is dynamic and changes with your stake, the example below is set to £/€1 per spin for simplicity. Starting with the low paying symbols we have the 10’s and J’s both paying 2.50x stake for a full line, the Q’s and K’s pay 5x stake and the A’s pay slightly more at 7.50x stake.
Moving onto the premium symbols we have the Frankenstein Zombie and the Female Zombie both paying 15x stake for a full line, the Green Zombie pays 20x, the Masked Zombie pays 25x, the Killer Clown pays 40x and the Wild symbol pays 50x stake respectively.

I’ve got to say, I enjoyed this slot from the off, it’s engaging and exciting as it’s the category of games that can do it all in just 1 spin like its counterpart Wanted Dead or a Wild, that spin being in the bonus or the base game and that kind of volatility is right up my street. The graphics and sounds are suitable morbid for the theme and it’s instantly recognisable as a Hacksaw Gaming release with the sound FX. Will I play this again? You betcha!
