Do gambling companies really care?

The other month after quite a vigorous gambling session I tried to log into bet365 on my phone to be met with a message from them asking me to fill in a questionnaire about my gambling. I think there were 5-6 questions basically seeing if I had a problem. If I’m honest I lied on every question knowing if I put such an answer down then they would either restrict my account or close it altogether. Since then I can’t stop thinking about it. At this moment I’m really gambling more than I should be it’s all I’m thinking about, I know what I’m doing is wrong but just can’t bring myself to go on gamstop. The point I’m making is why are they asking me to basically self cert? They’ve obviously been looking at my account and will see patterns of my activity. Do they really think a gambling addict will be truthful when answering those questions? I very much doubt it, I don’t even have any deposit limits set on my account which I’m about to change as I can’t carry on as I am. Also my mrs has an account with tombola (bingo) she’s got deposit limits set up on there last week they rang her asking her all kinds of questions and subsequently restricted her account. My Mrs don’t gamble nowhere near like I do so why restrict/close her account.

Anyway I’ve been down in the dumps the last few weeks cause of my gambling I need to change and sharpish I will make the steps to limit myself just so I can have a few footy accas hopefully this will help.

@VillaLad

It's getting you down so you need to do something as I know when gambling gets you down it affects everything else in your life.

But in answer to your question,  no, I don't believe gambling companies care.

If it wasn't for the legislation and scrutiny they come under they wouldn't give a flying f how much people lost.

They have to be seen to think they care to comply with regulations.

After all they are bookmakers. It's their m o to take your money

Yeah I agree they’ve only sent me that questionnaire because they “have to” I suppose the sayings true “when the fun stops stop”

@VillaLad They don't give a fuck to be blunt. Just ensuring the tick box exercise is completed to flash around when audited.

However, whatever they sent you has you reflecting. Reflection can be brutal and should of could of's start to grow legs.

You need a complete break. You're resilient. Look at how much you've overcome!

Find a box set, something that takes your time and thoughts.

You can overcome this. Stop escaping online and face life.

You deserve peace of mind. Find it. Take time out.

You're a lovely man ♥️ I'm routing for you.

Do what you need to do mate.  Don't let it take over your life. You've been there before

So I’ve just gone on to deposit limits there’s 3 options 24 hours 7 days and 30 days, I’ve just put what I’m willing to gamble on the 7 days it’s not a lot at all just so I can still do footy bets. On 24 hours there’s no limit and 30 days no limit but surely the 7 day limit will override these? Am I right thinking that? Let’s say I’ve put the 7 day one at £50 I won’t be able to deposit more than that during the 7 days? And £200 a month? I know I sound thick but my heads fully scrambled 🤦‍♂️

I can’t do complete break I need to have a footy bet the limits I’ve set are tiny but I’ll still get my fix if that makes sense. And to be completely truthful I don’t know how I’ll react to a complete break it might do more harm than good

I agree with you as I've been there.

There's no point going cold turkey if you don't want to stop as you'll only find somewhere else.

I understand and you must do what works for you. Limits and sticking to them if you're good with boundaries can work.

Just want for you to feel happy 🙂

@VillaLad   the short answer is no they do not care, It is a tick box exercise and they would prefer it if you helped keep their profits up.

At the end of the day this is why you need to use the tools available in your own best interests. If you do not want to give up doing your footy bets then set limits which will mean if you stray from them you will not be able to do the footy bet. This will install a level of discipline and you might find in the longer run you will  only veer towards footy and ignore horses etc..

I would also consider doing a time out even if only for a couple of days when there is no footy on. It is good to get right away from it and you will come back refreshed

That’s exactly what I’ve done Phil

They do care, it's like paracetamol companies need you to have a headache so they can make money, they made the tablets from the start to help get rid of headaches but now they are stuck as a company that needs you to be poorly so they can make money.

I'm guessing the 1st intention of a casino was to have and play for fun and bet responsible as to what you can afford.

It's complicated but you sound like you need to and want to stop gambling.

I've just recently stopped smoking, so the same goes ... Do the tobacco companies care ? unfortunately there's no such thing as smoking reasonable for fun 😕

Like i said it's complicated so just stop, or try to ... good luck with it, it's not impossible.
