God loves a trier ..............Apparently!

2021 Will be firmly remembered as the unluckiest year in relation to gambling on horses along with a mentally challenging time, not that it's a competition but if any member has worse results then step forward and present your case.

Most of these selections have already featured in some way in the racing section along with various images of said betting slips as I'm a sucker for evidence, any that are missing most probably just means I was pig sick to upload it or was attempting to forget it, even with a ''very disturbing year'' of near misses on doing ''rough gambler style'' calculations believe it or not I still march into 2022 with profit be that nowhere near what it ''could have been'' - could of should of eh, the gamblers motto

Quick true story before we begin in regards to the years biggest loss horse - Keeper,  - Keeper trained by Mr Roger Charlton and out of Frankel and went off at 4/7 in a piss poor Class 5 at Kempton, I had silly money on at odds of 4/6 - for some reason when I lump on horses at 4/6 they seem cursed and I end up losing, the dud slips I have over the years that all say ...............4/6 is just crazy and maybe a lesson should now be learned along with those odds being .........AVOIDED!

The gamblers thinking - behind backing Keeper was me attempting to buy money for another horse and race later that same week,  Keeper ran on Wednesday 7th July and finished .......2nd!

Not only was it the years biggest flop BUT the 50/1 rag won the race, a horse that had done feck all before that win and it's done feck all since that win, OR as I like to say ..........Wee fat Bob from the bakers beat Usain Bolt .......AGAIN!

The horse I was attempting to buy money for was Snow Lantern that was running at HQ in the Falmouth stakes on Friday 9th July, Keeper gets beat by the 50/1 rag and as gamblers we then know we've fecked up and we also know what happens next, Snow Lantern wins at 6/1   -  Yes it was a decent win BUT in my head it's not, I recovered all the loss from backing keeper and also make profit from the two combined BUT keeper losing wasn't THE PLAN.

By far the biggest win of the year was from Came from the Dark - Sandown back on 3rd July, thankfully that was a win that was took out and saved and that very horse was by far the main horse that ''kind of'' made sure the year was always going to end in profit.

The last hose I backed was back on 29th Oct at Kempton - Run for freedom, yip 2nd and even though it wasn't a large bet my confidence was ROCK BOTTOM along with my bottom lip. Tilt mode was activated and it was time to walk the land in a form of rehab destination head feck GROUND ZERO!

From 29th Oct to Wednesday 1st Dec the land was walked ''rehab''

Ironically back in 15th Oct I backed two horses in the same race at Uttoxeter,  Ask a Honey Bee & Kiltealy Brigg,  Ask a Honey Bee was Yip 2nd and Kiltealy Brigg was 4th

I had a lurk on the site a few night back and read about Coconut Splash in a 4 runner race at Haydock

The old gambling fuse was lit BUT who to back decisions decisions

The best bet of the year by a country mile and the only reason I went full degen baws deep on this day was ironically because the run before this win I backed him at HQ ''not heavy'' and he was ..........2nd

Do you actually keep all these slips as a reminder @Bangers

Most of the time Yes

You know the nature of the game the same as me David,  sometimes we just kid ourselves on,  we lose a ton then win a ton and we then feel like a winner lol

Big wins are very addictive but big losses as we both know ''with age'' just get harder to deal with.

I still don't know why I even returned and had a bet on Wednesday ...............My only answer is a moment of utter madness that paid off

Hope you are well yourself mate ?

I genuinely feel the bookies pricing of horses is completely mental nowadays, there was one running last week that opened odds on running its first race in a bumper, needless to say it got fucked. I feel it for ya @Bangers, we’re now onto the dross of national hunt racing where 1/3 1/5 shots are turned over on a daily basis.

It's a very shady game mate and you'll not need the likes of me to point that out

I've never been comfortable with the lay bet as it's a lot easier for those in the know to back a horse to lose and that bet for me just shouldn't exist.

I've been in some deep dark places this year and my confidence is still on the mend from certain races,  I'm still a punter on this site that's still learning and nothing these days shocks me, I have always felt it's much better putting up both sides of gambling,  that being the highs and lows.

Lots of those above results were very VERY close calls, mugged on the wire etc, we all get those result endings but this year they were relentless and it became mentally challenging even for someone like me that's been round the block a few times.

Fine margins from a successful bet or a failed bet.

@Bangers do you just put it on the nose? Just curious as you don't seem to just back short odds. I know you don't get as much back if it wins but with that obscene run of seconds you'd have got a bit back off the place in a few instances. Regardless, if you've still turned a small profit this year that's a huge positive and wouldn't question yourself too much, looks like it was more luck more than anything that went against you. To get such consistent 2nds you're obviously doing something right.

Just depends on a few things if I'll go E/w

I can have big arguments with certain bets along with stakes but those arguments are all in my own head.

Even the grade / class of race will depend on a Win or E/w bet and the odds.

It's just been a cruel unusual year but again I've still had some decent wins and both Royal Ascot and Goodwood were both kind meetings,  I overthink things at times and my biggest weakness is going into chase mode if the horse that was researched gets beat, not as bad as I used to be ''with age'' but that weakness will always be there I guess.

As a few on here will know ''maybe even you too'' that a part of gambling is about the rush / buzz,  if we get a win we also get our hit,  they don't last and we return for another try.

Some of those results were very bitter pills to swallow, I looked up to the skies a few times this year and could only sigh and shake my head, tough game at times.

If there was a gambling bible that quote would be in it.

It's something I miss as there is nothing to replace it. It's the way it has to be

Still buzzing from this morning and how ironic that a thread that was started purely to document a cruel year of ''2nd's'' turns with such a run of luck, purely because of a few sentimental reasons I normally always cover No-2 & 22 but have rarely had any luck from them.

Yesterday was a bust and I only had 2 daft winners on small stakes so just fancied a roll of the dice this morning on the evil wheel, I still find it crazy weird on the timing of me logging in and then playing, 22 landed and I did then think of just cashing out and running but just thot feck it.

Not a religious person in the slightest BUT get this, this is my ''2nd'' time at doing this post, about 10 mins ago it was all finished but for the first time ever on this laptop the screen froze and wouldn't let me do a thing, I couldn't even scroll over and hit submit, I had to switch the thing off by the main power button log back in and rewrite it for a 2nd time, that stuff blows my mind.

However anyone sees this I feel it's safe to say a run like that will NEVER HAPPEN ever again,  my only very slight negative is I never doubled the bet each time, seen that fella 7 Neighbours do that and I have done it in the past but the way things panned out I genuinely wasn't thinking straight and was really struggling with what I was seeing.

What a mega weird morning BUT all the signs were there lol

Get the feck in troops.

Seeing these number 2s come out reminds me of a time many years ago in a paddy Powers when they brought out a new game  with 9 numbers  and three draws   I remember doing number 2s in a patent  and waited for the draw to start.  Somebody came over and started a conversation   and stood so I could not see the screen very well and i was trying not to be rude but was looking over their shoulder .  I saw the first draw and saw a 2 drop so was happy enough   as I would at least break even.  He then started to point to a horse on the  wall so I had to turn around   after a while he finished and I looked up to see a second 2 drop so I was delighted  thinking that was great as I had got the double and wondered what the ball was I had missed .   It turned out that was the second draw as they were gabbling on between draws  next thing a third 2 dropped and I had scooped the max!    I was delighted and picked up around  900  .   Funnily enough it was stopped after about a week.

Luck really does fascinate me at times Phil, good or bad the twists can be mind boggling at times

Even watched a couple of races recently where you'd have put your house on a horse that took up the running, THEN the 2nd fought back and got up to win
