official U.S Masters 2021

Recommended Posts

its that time of the year again , well apart from this time last year , but we wont depress ourselves with all that , its Augusta baby !!!

In 6 days time the most Iconic golf course in the world opens its doors once again at its proper date and fans will be in attendance , obviously the numbers will be limited but some is better than none , the rescheduled 2020 event in November just did not deliver the same excitement for players or fans that were watching from home , it was all a bit flat for everyone really , we really need those back9 roars on a Sunday night . Dustin Johnson would clearly think otherwise , he won the event by a very comfortable 5 shots to claim his first green jacket .

as always prices will differ from bookie to bookie as they all want to try and give a little different to each other , less eachway places = better odds , more eachway places = shorter odds and so on . i suggest you shop around using https://www.oddschecker.com/golf/the-masters/2021-us-masters/winner , most of you will be familiar with this site , but if you are not i highly recommend you use it as betting is hard enough without taking under the odds . personally i tend to go with the site that offers the most places eachway and the odds a little bit less , Skybet at the moment are by far the most generous going top11 , in coming days i fully expect their competitors to extend place terms so keep an eye out if you are planning to wait till nearer the Date to place your bet .

so lets get straight down to what we all want to talk about , who's going to contend for the win , well we can make a case for a pretty big bunch . i will give my views on the main contenders and a few other names that may surprise , with 11 payed places its not always about the top of the market in golf , the value can be very deep at times .

Dustin Johnson - No1 in the world and defending champ , multiple top10's around Augusta , length off the Tee around here is a massive plus , hugely talented player that ticks all the right boxes , currently trading around 8/1+ , if you like the Favorite's , this is your man .

Jon Rahm - Amazing player that is now currently sitting at No2 in the world , still yet to break his Major Championship duck but surely its just a matter of time , my only concern about Rahm is his temperament , although this has improved dramatically with age and experience you can still see glimmers of it in his body language when a shot goes astray , Spanish players have a very good record around here , Ballesteros , Olazabel , Garcia have all conquered , will Rahm join the list ...

Dechambeau - well this guy has taken the golfing world by storm over the last year or so , this guy bombs it off the Tee and has found a huge amount of success doing it , you would naturally think that Augusta is tailormade for this massive hitter but his record tells a different story , his best performance is a tied 21st in 2016 , sure a lot about his game has improved since then but he came into the rescheduled November 21 Masters in a super rich vein of form and again under performed , there is no doubt he has the game to win here but the numbers so far do not read good , i may end up with egg on face but this guy is off my list of potential winners .

Rory Mcilroy - hard to know where his head is at these days , now married with children his life is so different to when he was once a dominant force a few years ago , i think the will to win is nowhere near as strong as it once was , still shows signs of magic on the golf course and has floated around a fair few leaderboards without winning . we know Augusta suits Mcilroy , he has multiple top10's but then there is the 2011 meltdown when he had one arm in the green jacket , 10 years on and i think the mental scars are still there , not for me .

Justin Thomas - been quite vocal that he wants a Masters win , he has to be on the shortlist this year , tremendously talented player , i will be surprised if he is not around come the Sunday night .

Jordan Spieth - 6 months ago you would not bet this guy with monopoly money but his form lately has just gone sky rocket and seen his odds tumble lower and lower as weeks go by as he keeps contending week after week , his Masters record is pretty special with four Top3 finishes which really should include 2 wins rather than 1 . he loves it here and has to be considered , the negative is his driving when the pressure is on , it can be quite alarming and an obvious concern .

Collin Morikawa - if you are one of the gamblers that rarely has a golf bet its quite possible you have not even heard of this guy , but let me tell you he's special , very special , came on the scene together with Wolff , Hovland , Niemann , basically the new kids on the block that are the future of the game , but as it stands right now this guy is the pick of the bunch , currently sitting at No5 in the world and a U.S PGA championship already on his CV along with a handful of other wins against elite fields its safe to say Morikawa is here to stay .

Europeans that have to be considered , Hatton , although i am a little unsure the low ball flight of hatton is not ideal for Augusta , Fitzpatrick and Fleetwood  looks to be coming into some sort of form at the right time and i have clearly got to mention Westwood that is playing some great stuff right now , he knows his way around this place , his price has been hammered but 33/1 is still readily available , after his countless near misses is it finally time at the age of 47 for Westy to win his first major , think i might shed a tear if he eventually done it .

Brooks Koepka - still in betting but very doubtful to play due to injury .

also in the running we can name a hatful of other names that have to be considered

Simpson , Schauffle , Cantlay , Hovland , Reed , Berger , Matsuyama the list goes down far , even the professional bridesmaid Tony Finau that is an eachway machine , all these names are fully capable of putting 4 good rounds of golf together and contending for the win , pretty sure a lot of the names above will be filling a lot of that top11 . Class does tend to rise to the top in Major Championship's even more so around Augusta National . i do have a couple of 3 figure players worth a small punt , if they play well enough you never know , Christian Bezuidenhout and Robert Mcintyre are young players coming along very nicely the last year or so and a good show from either would certainly not be a surprise to me .

please note i am an avid golf fan and punter , i am far from being a golf betting genius but enjoy trying to help others not so clued up on the sport , if i have not given your player the brightest of review or not mentioned them at all please do not be swayed by it , the last thing i would want to do is take you off a winner .

hope you have enjoyed the read and hope the thread is nice and active over the 4 days , look forward to reading all the content from other forum members .

good luck all .

Great write up. I agree with you with Mcilroy I can never see him winning The Masters

Bryson has my vote but you never really know he could miss the cut and it wouldn’t even be that surprising

A decent bet is top 10 for serious outsiders, there’s bound to be a few in there

Would definitely recommend downloading The Masters App as well. Gives trackers for the players round the course so you can follow each shot.

Good luck all! I see you have half the field listed so might get a place or two 😉

Just kidding! Morikawa has a really strong game and has won me a bit over the last 18 months.

Rahm I have been more impressed with in the last 6 months, his composure and temprement which was often his shortfall seems to be in check a lot better and I think it may be the first time I put him as my main fancy in any major golf comp (which is a bit weird to say given his quality)

Scottie Scheffler is one I really like and have said on a few occasions and will be backing him to place. He's hitting it quite nicely at the moment in the current tourn, and went around the Matchplay well recently, finishing 2nd.

I'm with Shades in terms of Rory. He needs a big shake up to get back to winning ways.

My longer odds one's maybe Berger and Ancer, but haven't looked too much at their recent games. Thoughts on Homa placing at 11 places shades? @Shades111I know we've discussed him a few times, and he seems to be slowly but incrementally getting better every 6 months.

Best of luck everyone!

dont know about a few , one maybe two , remember this is a select field of about 80 , and probably 20 have no chance , its not like an Open , hard to find massive outsiders in the masters but believe me i will try .

i guess these 2 bets are worth a mention , always try and get a few quid on leading up to an event , 66/1 and 28/1 golf winners in last few weeks has given me 4 decent bets so far . pretty good for £12

£67 win Simpson 40/1

£67 win Morikawa 25/1

£58 win Rahm 11/1

£58 win D.J 8/1

anyone thinking of backing Jordan Spieth for Augusta and are a bit 50/50 about it would be well advised to tune into the final round of the Texas Open tonight , currently tied for the lead with Matt Wallace , hoffman a further 2 shots back and the chasing pack 4+ back , looks a 3 horse race .

but the big question is will the Driving hold up under pressure or will it be sprayed all over Texas .

I like the first rounder leader bet as you get similar odds and places to the final winner but its just one round so think it gives a few longer odds a shot. Anyone is capable of a good first round, someone like Tom Lewis (if playing) has the ability to go 6 or 7 under but wouldn't do it over 4 rounds.

As for bets I haven't looked since I realised the bookies would be shut but I was looking at Westwood, Casey, Hatton and Cantalay. I agree j wouldn't surprise me to see Spieth or Brookes up there, they've both hit a bit of form and can get round there very nicely. DJ will be there or there abouts. Dont think Rory comes anywhere. Typical Masters though, there are so many could have a chance players with tasty odds.

I used to like that bet. Did Justin Rose a couple of times. He generally starts the masters well

Yeah he was one of mine. You'll normally find a couple of 60-80/1 shots will get top 6 so its a decent eachway bet and if one tops leaderboard your laughing.

Spieth wins in Texas , played very well , he wont be getting any of my money at Augusta but you cannot count him out thats for sure .

Ian Poulter / Justin Rose both score well at the masters then don't seem to sustain the challenge .  It would be nice to see them do better ....

whats the safest bet for top 10 finish? @philinvicta @Shades111

Justin Thomas for me  he has won this year and  his masters record is improving each year  (he was 4th las year)   He also  has a few years of playing Augusta under his belt  and he is slightly better than evens for a Top 10 finish.

On paper that's probably the best choice. Think he's only had a few appearances but he's improved every year. Very solid player who certainly knows how to win plus doesn't make too many mistakes. Just for a bit of value I'd maybe fancy Tony Finau at a better price.

Thomas has played there  for 6 years and is now 27  and has become a very solid player.    I will be doing a couple of longer shots   myself   and maybe look for top 20  As I said earlier there is some bad weather due and that can always throw calculations out of the window.

beware the injured golfer !!

Koepka plays !!

out to 25/1 , to be fair that's a fantastic price , its a pure gamble right now as you just do not know how fit he is , it could be all a smoke screen and he's fit as a fiddle , nobody knows , class player and has to be on the short list if fit .
