Guest centipede Posted March 29, 2018 So, as the title suggests, what are the swindles (if any) you've pulled in the bookies? 1/ Maybe 15 years ago when the FOBTs started me and a few others in a local bookie used to play the computer roulette that much that we knew the spins and what it was going to land on after the ball started. So we would put a max bet on, and if it wasnt a winning number we would pull the plug out the wall and say the game crashed, and the cashier would give us our money back. We were rugular losers in there, but when I look back on it the cashier(s) must have known what was going on!! we wasnt exactly discreet.. Also on another occasion we cut a bit off the front of the FOBT next to the screen, so we could put our hand inside, and when someone puts a note in we could catch it before it went down into the tray below. We opnly did this once before we was rumbled. again, discretion wasnt our strong point! 2/ I had a mate who used to get up 20 player accas on the tennis every other week! he used to put like 60p on 20 players, 17 of them had already won and 3 heavy odds on shots and watch them come in. The cashier checked the results every time and saw they won and paid him out. I think he kept this going so long because he only ever used to do it to get paid about 70-80 quid! 3/ I had a bet on 2 teams in the Euros once, was like a Sweden and Italy double at about 2/1 or something, anyway they both lost, but they both played again 3 days later and both won! I took the ticket back to the cashier, they checked the results and saw they won and paid me out! I actually think it was about a 7/2 double in the end! These are a few I can remember, but are at least 10+ years old in my slightly younger days. Be interesting to heart about any others that people used to do! Shades111 1,065 Posted March 29, 2018 yea i got a couple , both from many years ago first one was an old independent bookies , they had two tills working on a busy day , one was an up to date machine , the other was a stone-age piece of crap with no clock on it , the manager/settler would be round the back of shop . the girl that worked this till had a bit of a thing for me at the time , i was not that attracted to the girl but me knowing what i knew about the clock obviously changed things , so our one sided relationship blossomed quite nicely and i was putting dog bets on after time for a few months raking in a nice few quid , i never got too greedy , maybe pull the trick twice a day and net myself a couple of hundred each time . eventually the till was replaced and that was end of that little scheme . girl in question was rewarded well in many ways :-) second time (also hitting a little independent bookie) was when nick price and nick faldo had gone clear in the final round i think in the sun city million in south africa , it was basically a 2 horse race , after checking scores before going off to the bookies with my mates price had gone 5 clear with not many holes left , as we arrive at bookies the prices were still up for the final round of the tournament , they thought it was being played that evening , sadly the price on nick price was only 11/10 but after ringing around and getting as much money possible between us at 1pm on a sunday i think we managed to get about £2600 on at 11/10 , went off quietly , returned next day and got paid out . oh there is a 3rd , not really a scam , it was more a mistake on their part , only a couple of years ago this one , i was off to my mates house one evening to watch some random football match , me being me cannot sit through 90 minutes of football without having a bet decided to go bookies and have £20 on steve sidwell to score 1st at 14/1 , anyway i get to mates house and sit down for the game and hes not playing and didnt get bought on , so its basically a non runner in horse terms and i will receive my £20 back . about 5 days pass and between that night and me collecting back my £20 the team sidwell was playing for played again , and as you can imagine it was 1-0 and guess who scored , yep you have guessed it "sidwell" . well obviously im a bit pissed off with this but nevermind . so im driving past the bookies with bird in tow and tell her to pop in and get my £20 with the betting slip and il just pull car over , she comes out 2 minutes later , gets in car , how much did you say you had to come on that bet she asked ? £20 i said , well why have they just paid me £300 was her reply . hahaha silly buggers paid me out on wrong game . fun times !!
Guest Posted March 29, 2018 I certainly wouldn't say I have ever swindled the bookies but on numerous occasions my returns have been wrong. I was once somehow paid a grand too much but realised once I got to my car and checked it. Returned it straightaway. On another occasion they had settled my bet at a price I hadn't taken and again paid me too much, in this instance it was around £1500, I hadn't been paying attention, left the place, didn't check the money until I got home. I went back the next morning and the manager (who was an ignorant fuck that at times was quite rude to me) was a nervous wreck hadn't slept all night he said as he realised he had paid me way too much and Ladbrokes would have sacked him for losing that much so he was hoping I would come back the next day. Again, I of course returned it, don't want to see someone getting the sack over a few beans. It has gone the other way also, on numerous occasions been paid less than I should have and in fairness I have never been left out of pocket, when mentioned its always been checked and paid out correctly. I did have the opportunity to properly swindle my phone bookie just a few years ago, one of my own horses had been heavily backed before I phoned then up to try get a bet on. They quoted me a price that had long since gone.... I had been losing quite heavily at the time so I was very very tempted to take the price and argue the toss if they questioned it later. I pretty much said "that's overpriced, it should be around 7s not 12s now".....I was politely told "wow, you're a stupid fucker, honest but a stupid fucker" by the trader . I think it got me brownie points as they still to this day pretty much take any of my bets.

Mad Slasher McGurk 7,349 Posted April 2, 2018 Not really a bookie swindle but when FOBT's first came out the "force the zero" system really did work for a few years until one day it just stopped working. I used to make £200 a day using a variation of it. What I would do was put a £1 on red and £1 on black and start spinning away but I never backed zero at this point what I would do was click away 40 spins first then start backing zero. The idea is that the machine keeps spinning and because you have red and black covered you always win so the machine hunts for a number to beat you, after 40 spins I would put £1 on zero for 10 spins then £2 for 10 etc and zero would always come in before long giving you a profit. The worst thing that could happen is I would be on spin 36 or thereabouts and the zero would come in and I would have to start again, many people claim this system is a myth but it really did work at first until the programmers caught on to it and changed it. I was making £200 a day but I had to stop and start it as It got to the stage I was seeing the roulette wheel in my dreams and every night when I was trying to sleep I was spending that many hours in front of it during the day, there was also the awkward questions from those types that watch over your shoulder as to why I was just spinning with £1 on red and black for ages.

Guest centipede Posted April 3, 2018 I always remember this one guy years ago who used to put £3 on the 36 numbers, so if one came in he would get his money back, but if zero came in he would lose the £3. Every single number that came in he would turn to people in the bookies and proclaim 'thats my lucky number!' He is as funny, but a little simple. Liytle did I know all these years later that he was a genius according to Mad Slasher McGurk!!
Gaztroy 103 Posted April 3, 2018 I didn't do this but I know a couple of people who did. I am not entirely sure that this is possible anymore. My mate worked in a bookies and at any given one time there is bets that go unclaimed. Now sometimes these bets are due to people losing the slips or just people forgetting. If you want to claim a bet without a slip and its within a certain period of time then you could give a sample of the handwriting to the bookie and they would make a judgement on whether it matched. If it did they would pay you out on the bet. Now the two friends I knew used to run this scam where one would tell the other which bets weren't claimed and then the other write a slip and cash them in. They did this for about a year and prob made around 10k ish before the guy in the bookies quit the job and did something else. I don't think you can do it now. There was a cashier down my way that did that, she got found out though when someone came in to pick up some unclaimed money and the manager told him it had already been paid out. upon further investigation the staff member was fired
