Maybe a little off topic but I have not seen ONE bookmakers shut up shop in a ten mile vicinity from where I live! people are straight back on the FOBts spinning furiously at the slots at 2 quid a spin. Yet again the bookies greed kicks in by bonus games where three gold coins buys u a shot at the big time. These bastards need monitored closely! a panel should be formed monitoring their every move.

Lots of hills disappeared near me over the summer, no other chain really changed however. Understandably as hills offer shit service and no promos

A lot of the sites I manage have bookies on them mate - they are not shutting up shops as such but just not renewing leases so it will be a phased close down.

A couple have closed in Southport.

Near my office in Manchester a few of the big ones have gone (literally overnight); only a Ladbrokes remains but whenever I go past people are literally lining up to get on the slots.

Loads have shut down where I am, at least 5 I can think of within 2 miles of me and most of the ones still open, where every time I walked past I could see people at every FOBT, these days they're deserted or maybe 1 person playing. Don't get me wrong, there are still like another 7 or 8 open bookies within a couple of miles too, but I'm not sorry to see the number coming down. I think the FOBT stake reduction has had a positive impact, particularly on the number of people who were virtual roulette jockeys rather than slotters. Slots can still be brutal even at £2.

Don't shoot me down for this and maybe i'm talking shite but I would like to see a Gamstop sign on each of the 4 walls off every bookmakers in the UK. The Sunday Mail ( Scotland ) published an artical exposing the bookmakers mass self exclusion facility last week. Apparently the managers have been secretly told to ignore problem/exluded gamblers if they use the self service machines provided in each shop!, will try and work out how to post link.

What do we have to help problem gamblers in the bookmakers!, a fucking tiny yellow leaflet that no-one gives a shit about. I don't see the Gamstop logo anywhere. I live in Lanarkshire so I dont know if its the same for you English/We;sh/Irish Folk.

They are fucking brutal at £2. Anyone addicted to FOBT slots is going to be absolutely fucked for the foreseeable future. I just don't know who has the bankroll to play them at those stakes. I did £100 over Xmas in around 3 mins with an RTP of 8%. How's that even possible when the JP is only 250 x stake? Mental. When the fun stops you say?

Its similar to the casinos to be fair mate. They have them shitty little leaflets all over advertising a support number for anyone who is loosing control etc. I dont think it is enough to be honest, as your already in the building at the tables before you even see it.

The best thing I find with the casinos is if you self exclude, you cant even get through the reception desk as when you sign in, they have your photo on their computer and just tell you politely to fuck off. Needs a similar setup in the bookies.

I think the new fortune spins are just sickening mate. "Feature will land in approximately 1 in 50 spins". Seen people lose hundreds in a matter of minutes to get 5 fortune spins which pays a total of fuck all

Yet that prick Stop and Step edits himself walking away with constant profit from the FOBTs. Everyone forms a line to have a dig at this Nickslots bloke but there are just as shifty if not shiftier ones out there.

It's difficult for shop staff on the high street though, I think...it's not just a matter of knowing someone has self excluded and asking them to leave. I've seen staff nervously looking at agitated gamblers who are obvious addicts, clearly too scared to approach them. What are they supposed to do when they get threats, violence, heavy stools smashed through machine screens or an addict screaming at them to fuck off when they ask if they're alright? Doesn't help that at the peak of FOBT madness, the chain bookies were opening up new stores every ten yards in closet-sized shops for the sole purposes of having another four machines running and staffing them with one twenty-something girl until 10 at night.

Fortune spins are savage, sadly i play them as you can get lucky if you catch them right BUT i wouldn't advocate anyone to play them. I'll only do so if i have money i can afford to lose and plenty of it (so its very rare i do) as it seems you need a really deep bank roll to stand any chance.

Worst ive done is 137 spins without a go, £274 before i got to actually play. Bare in mind they are supposed to replace the £50 spins so should average 1 in 25.

I built up a massive kitty over a few days a while back and one game took nearly 2 grand!!!

I think its wrong that the fortune spins and game RTP seem to be linked. By that i mean if you win in the actual game it seems to hugely influence the number of fortune spins it takes to play the game again. For instance too many times ive had the slot pay £200 and then it takes another 80 spins to get the fortune spins im again. Basically the fortune spins are bringing the RTP back when really i should get 3 lots of fortune spins that pay fuck all to get the RTP back. Hope that makes sense.

And the £100 communities are just as bad, i lost 1100 through 2 of them at the weekend, never had a chance at walking. I only ploughed on as it was profit from the fobts so i sickeningly justified the chase. The problem is that they can pay 500 back so kept thinking i should get some back. In the end got fed up and walked even.

The bookies have for the most part got round the stake reduction. On slots you could say it is worse. Id like to see far more done in bookies and arcades in respect of responsible gambling.

Ive barred myself from all local arcades so thats good, especially as they enforce it. What i dont like is how hard it is to bar yourself in a bookies, they want photos which most the time i had just lost all my money so couldnt do. They offer you no support and never point out the national self exclusion. All arcades have a tablet now that they use to take your picture and exclude you with. Bookies dont have this, they could easily, but the simple fact is that they do not want people to self exclude so make it as difficult as possible. Ive even been told they cant do it there and then and i have to go away for 24hours and come back if i want to, again this is only so you dont exclude.

Sorry for the rant.

Yeah, kind of a PSA here: Since the max stake reduction, fortune spins are now compensated not random. Base game is still random, fortune spins actually are impacted by previous play so if you get those spins and hit a decent win, walk away immediately. Likewise, if you hit a couple of fortune spins and they don't pay anything, that's a good sign you're about to get bled dry.

You need to phone 0800 294 2060 mate to self exclude. Now if you choose to ring make sure you have addresses of all the bookmakers to hand because they don't want to make it easy so will need all the individual information of every bookmakers.

What they then do is send you an email, you will need to reply to this email by sending a photo of yourself and 1 form of I'd (eg driving licence) via email. It's pretty easy if you have a smart phone but probably impossible if you don't.

They only do a maximum of 12 months for some bullshit reasons but it does run for another 6 months unless you actually ring up and go through an assessment.

It's only effective if you feel embarrassed of being stopped which I do, so it just goes to show how flawed it is.

The process is no where near as bad as I've made out in the above process mate. So please do this today or in the next few days and have a fresh start champ.

All the more reason for a card scheme isn't it mate but it's never going to happen. I've only ever had 1 person ask me if I'm OK in all my years and trust me I'm definitely not vary scary ??.
