Hi Guys, I thought I’d come on here just to ask for some help.

i have a serious gambling problem that is just never ending. I’m really trying to stop but I just can’t. I’ve lied to my parents about it. Promised them I would never do it again and continued to blow all my money.

ive signed up to Gamstop which has helped with the online massively. But it’s the bookies. Those fucking machines have ruined me.

Ive been sending any saved money over to my dad so I don’t have it to spend. But like today I lost what I had and took out two pay day loans just to spunk it all away chasing my loss.

ive always said to people I don’t need help and I’m not going to any GA meetings etc . But for the first time I really do think I need help. I can’t go through this anymore. September was supposed to be my first month gamble free. It lasted all of about a week before I was back in the bookies.

Ive put about 2.5k into those machines in the last 24 hours. I feel like self exclusion is pointless because half the time they never batter an eyelid when you walk in.

I’m self excluded from land based casinos so that’s ok. It’s just the bookies.

How do I stay away ?

Change the way you think about the problem :

1. YOU ARE THE PROBLEM.

2. YOU ARE THE SOLUTION.

3. ACCEPT THE CHALLENGE .

4. STAND ALONE.... STOP BLAMING OTHERS FOR YOUR ACTIONS.

5 PAY ALL BILLS AND A PROPORTION OF DEBT BEFORE YOU USE DISPOSABLE INCOME FOR GAMBLING.

6 COMPLETELY STOP HANDLING CASH ......

7. TELL YOUR FAMILY THE TRUTH.... THEY LOVE YOU AND WILL SUPPORT YOU IF YOU DO---- IF YOU CANNOT --THEN AT LEAST DO NOT LIE TO THEM .

8 DONT LEND OR BORROW MONEY FROM YOUR FRENDS --- OR YOU WONT HAVE ANY LEFT.

9 FIND ALTERNATIVE WAYS TO FILL YOUR DAY

10.   DONT STEAL CHEAT OR LIE ......ACCEPT THAT HAVING A SMALL AMOUNT OF MONEY IS BETTER THAN POCKETS OF DECEIT .

11. BE THANKFUL YOU ARE WELL AND YOUNG ---- YOU HAVE TIME TO CORRECT YOUR MISTAKES....

LEARN TO PUT OTHERS FIRST AND GIVE PRESENTS AT CHRISTMAS ETC

MORE TO FOLLOW WHEN YOU ARE ACTUALLY LISTENING AND HAVE DONE THE ABOVE................

Just don't walk in. Give yourself another hobby, occupy your mind with something else.

Stay away for 1 week, then every time you want to go in just don't for 1 week, go home and write down how many times you could of gone in for just 1 week. Use willpower. Then times those times by 2.4k and think how you'd feel if you lost that amount

Sign up to the self exclusion to all the shops in your area, that would be the first step, another would be as soon as you have the urge to go in, do so to tell the cashiers that you have self excluded and you are not allowed in there, they will instantly boot you out, don't let pride stop you from doing this, Fudge pride, all it does is hurt. Do that enough times and they will remember you. This is not easy and it is good you have come here, we will help but you must help youreslf also. So as soon you can, bring in a passport size photo or take the yellow leaflet and tell them you want to self exclude from all bookmakers in a certain raduis.

@Pepperc63 any gambler with problems which includes myself gets to a point when they say enough is enough.

I think you have reached that point now as I did 4 months ago.

As others have said self exclude from the bookies. I know you say it's pointless as they don't bother, but if you self exclude officially with them they have a duty of care.

Good luck and Keep us informed

Try being honest

With the closest too you

Tell them the story

Let them look after your money

Maybe set yourself some pocket money ? Seems mad but helps

Self excluded from local bookmakers

Offline self-exclusion from bookmaker shops on the high street

Call this number 0800 294 2060 and simply tell them you want to self-exclude from bookmaker shops in your area where you live, where you work or anywhere at all where you could end up walking into a bookmaker and losing money you don’t want to lose or can’t afford to lose.

For more information visit this website https://self-exclusion.co.uk/ it has all the up to date information on how you can self-exclude yourself from bookies shops on any high street in the UK.

Once you have finished that 2 or 3-minute phone call you are all set, send off your ID and a selfie of your face. There is no point you trying to win big anymore as the bookmaker no longer has to pay you out and you have agreed to that too. You have also agreed not to be refunded any losses after the self-exclusion.

Hopefully after x months

You realise how close you was to becoming fkd

Please reach out to your Dad. Tell him how much you are struggling.

Ask him to help you. Please don’t do this alone as you don’t have the strength it would seem.

You can do this and eventually you will break the habit when you’ve had a good period of abstinence. No more loans. Knuckle down and talk stock. Come back here for support if you feel weak or have the urge to gamble.

Thank you everyone for your messages. It means a lot to know I can talk to someone. I will ring that number today and sort out the self exclusion.

what scares me is I’ve said the same thing to myself so many times before and Haven’t  been able to stop.

My job is travelling around a lot and I have a lot of spare time on my hands so it’s always been so easy to just walk into a bookies. I just hope the self exclusion helps but like you say the only person who will stop this is me.

I will I’ll keep everyone updated and take each day at a time.

Starting with today Day 1 Gamble free.

Brilliant that you are starting a fresh this morning. Travelling around you need to ensure that you leave your bank cards at home or with your Dad.

Just take enough with you for lunch etc or better still take a packed lunch with you.

Look to take a book to read for the moments of time on your hands.

You can overcome this.

Gambling is powerful drug but it can be overcome.

You are addicted to something on screen. Find something else on screen that will occupy your time that much you won't think about gambling.

If you can blow 2.5k, then you can have lots of free time. What works for me is :

- Find a streamer that streams a lot something you like. Might be a game, outdoor activity or just is interesting for chat et.

- Play online multiple games where it's 1 on 1 or competition of any kind. Like CS. Where your concentration and energy is focused on winning a round.

- movie therapy. There unlimited movies out there waiting to be downloaded for free. TV shows, YouTube clips... Anything. 100% guranteed you will find something interesting enough. For example I can't stop watching Police activity videos where cam is on their chest or car and often there are shots fired et..

-music therapy. You have to be cool down a bit for this, but music can cure for sure. Search for some specific type  compilation and remixes you like and you will be listening for hours and days.

If all this doesn't work do something crazy.. Something you haven't done... Example I went to semi nude beach and showed my willy there and ass.

Go to somewhere where there is attention to you, like massage saloon, strip club,..

Instead of £2.4k in the bookies. Book a holiday and take a break away ( don’t use Thomas cook tho ?) you need to find an alternative. Maybe join a gym? Or some kind of sport to keep your mind focused.

One thing I learnt at fat club is the 5 second rule. Look at the thing I really wanna eat for 5 seconds and really think do I need to eat it. And normally I don’t. Maybe if you walk past the bookies you could stand for 5 seconds and think of the reasons why you shouldn’t go in there then walk right past it and go on about your day?

Go into the bookies with it hanging out and you will be banned for life. Sorted!

I had a similar problem for years and my way was always never to take my bank card to work. I'd take maybe ten quid for some food and drink.

Not much more to say than what already has but i wish you good luck kicking the habit.

The fobts, if that is what you are playing, do not play the same anymore. Ive come to that realization after losing 5 times in them in brutal fashion. There is no run for your money, no game play and most importantly very few wins now. I kept hoping id have a winning session to recoup some losses and also part ways with them with one up on them. It didnt happen. I can accept i wont win now so its pointless, try do the same. You will never get that 2.4k back from a fobt. Accept it is gone and move forward a better and wiser person.

All the best bud.

Me too ??

Instead of the 5 second rule I had to do the 5 hour rule. Still scoffed 6 cream cakes and gunna get fat shamed tomorrow. So cheers buddy thanks for that ???

No worries... As they sing in a song...

Oh, my, God Becky, look at her butt
It is so big, she looks like
One of those rap guys' girlfriends.
But, ya know, who understands those rap guys?
They only talk to her, because,
She looks like a total prostitute, 'kay?
I mean, her butt, is just so big
I can't believe it's just so round, it's like out there
I mean gross, look...

..... I like big butts and I can not lie
You other brothers can't deny
That when a girl walks in with an itty bitty waist
And a round thing in your face
You get sprung, want to pull up tough
'Cause you notice that butt was stuffed
Deep in the jeans she's wearing
I'm hooked and I can't stop staring
Oh baby, I want to get wit'cha...

A lot of fantastic advice above. Better than I could put it but in the end only you can change. Gambstop is a start but unless you self exclude from the bo0kies you will carry on.

You will always be looking how to get around it, self exclude and after a bit you will accept you cant and start taking the next steps on your journey through life.

I wish you well and hope you can take that final step and self exclude.

not much else to add other than maybe with days gone without gambling set yourself a little reward system... im not sure what you like but for example if its clothes after say 14 days no gambling treat yourself to a new shirt... that sort of thing but obviously in line with what you enjoy

good luck usually the first step is realising and openly admitting it so your already half way there
