The retraining of race horses charity... it seems to have been on here for a long time. For me it wasnt ever an option with the other charities.

Today i thought i would actually have a look to see what its all about and now im hoping someone who maybe in the know could explain for me!!!

What do they get retrained to do? I've looked briefly at the website but doesn't really explain it well enough for me?

My particular interest would be if they could be retrained to help kids/adults with disabilities?

Anyone with any knowledge of this charity?

Basically they get retrained in other  equine sports such as showjumper three day eventing etc as explained on the site. For instance Kauto Star ended up doing dressage. As thoroughbreds are usually highly strung they are unsuitable for riding for the disabled   and really should only be ridden by accomplished riders

I must confess I didn't read much of the website ? I appreciate your explanation though. Shame they cant be retrained for the disabled, I am interested in how and why some horses have a sense for this!

Thanks Phil. ?

With regards to riding for the disabled I saw a programme once where someone with a stable was buying horses at an auction and they were looking for a particular type of horse with a very placid personality.  It was one of those BBC country programmes.  They also wanted them to be sturdy as well.
