e_abrams
In an update published on its website, the leading UK bookmaker William Hill announced that it “has entered into a consultation process with retail colleagues” and it may close up to 700 of its betting shops within the next few months. The reason for the closure is the drastic decrease of the FOBTs max stake introduced earlier in 2019. William Hill is yet to reveal the exact locations of the shops slated for closure, but the shutdown is expected no later than the end of the year. Player1173
Its frightning just how profitable these machines have been for the bookies for many years. The bubble had to burst at somepoint. Just hope the employees all get a decent redundancy payout.
Crunchie
no mention of how much profit they are making online, which is many millions....... feel sorry for the employees, and hope they get jobs in the offices as the online side of the business is booming. Hardly "not public knowledge" Well Phillip. That is bad journalism as it was strewn with errors. As previously stated all information about shop closures prior to this last month or so has been based on speculation and the bookmakers forecasted figures from the consultation period. But I have explained this to you before and it went over your head, I do believe venomously in the old adage of "if you throw enough shit at a wall eventually some will stick". But you seem rather adamant on ignoring the obvious. Edited July 14, 2019 by Guest

Sure we have all witnessed big changes over the years but those machines really do take the piss 99% of the time and have ruined many lives, I do enjoy the odd game from time to time but like many of us I've watched people sit and blow everything on them including a few mates of mine. I'd not lose a bit of sleep if they removed the lot of them. Edited July 14, 2019 by Bangers 1
Guest
Every form of gambling ruins lives. From loot boxes within computer games, to scratch cards, sports betting, greyhound betting, horse betting, the national lottery, the local bingo hall, arcades, online casino's and so on and so on. Its not something exclusive to just the FOBTs.

True BUT most things can be social Going to the races or bingo can be very social for a lot of people, nothing social about someone sitting playing a fobt
