Greed or Addiction?

Recommended Posts

I posted on Saturday morning how I took a £20 balance and ended up cashing out £500 playing at stakes averaging 20/40p, well it didn't end there. In the early hours of Sunday morning I decided to deposit £200 for another session, I was piss drunk as I had been on the piss for the full day. Anyway, I'm full of Dutch courage and now think i'm Rolla. I head straight to lightning roulette and start playing at high stakes, the 20/40p format is binned. I'm all in on the 20 section and the multiplier goes fucking crazy on one of my numbers, BOOM.. in it lands.. £1600. Instantly I leave roulette and head over to BOD, long story short I go to sleep at 4am Sunday morning with a balance of £2400. Later that day I withdraw £1900 and plan to play with  the remaining £500 that evening. The £500 balance lasted for minutes playing monopoly at fucking mental stakes, any level headed gambler wouldn't touch this shite ( landed on 2 spins, first spin was x7 and the second was jail LOL ).

To get to my point I'm more upset at losing £500 than i'm happy winning £1900. I am not a greedy person as I have transferred the full amount to the missus. I have been like a caged tiger after the session, that lightning roulette strike is all I can think about. I have since closed the account as disaster is probable.

Anybody else have feelings like this after a session, anyone else would be elated but I just feel like shit after it. I know i'm coming across as a wanker but I genuinely don't want to portray it that way.

Did almost the same mate after my line of explorers. Highest point was £2670 ish and withdrew £2250 plus lost another £200 in town. It felt like I'd lost £600 so i know the feeling first hand. You've just got to be happy with what you won.

It's pretty simple really. As gamblers we always want to get back to the highest point so your loss of £500 to a certain extent left you feeling short changed.

Also, one of the worst feelings is when the money has run out to continue gambling even if you have made a nice withdrawal.

All part of a gamblers makeup

I think that sums it up perfectly.

It is 50-50 between greed and addiction , as if you are a gambler you like the amounts with minimum three 0 at the end, if you are in control and know how to react when you loose is not going to be a problem , if you  will start the chase the amount that you lost, then is going to be a BIG problem , enjoy the 1900£ and do not even think about the 500£ ? Happy days

Once you don't value something, you don't treat it with the same respect.

When I was gambling, part of the attraction was winning money, like "free money".

Money I didn't have to work for. So the money seemingly easy made ...

Every big win should have been more . But then I though every loss was personal. They took "my money".

I wanted to get it back the money I've just lost.

That's the gambler's mindset!

I'm happy you've cashed out though. Well DONE!! ?

Focus on the positives mate. You withdrew 1900 but more importantly was having gumption to withdraw and not blow the lot.

That's something positive I have done Blampy. The wife hasn't been keeping too well recently so that money will get her a holiday later this year. I have lost count the amount of time I have been up thousands only to spunk it all away.

Your spot on mate, if someone put £2400 in my hand I would be out the door in a flash. That balance of £2400 on the screen however means fuck all to most of us.

You made £1700 profit mate, that's all you need to think about, not how you got there

As much as Er Indoors was delighted with the money she also questioned how I was able to do that when I'm signed up to Gamstop. Made myself out a liar and women fucking hate all that shit.

It is easier said than done but the trick, for me anyway, was to set a limit on how much I would gamble and then a point at which I would be happy to collect. A hot streak can turn to shit in no time! When playing roulette on the FOBT I would start with £20 and would play until I at least doubling my money. If I hit £100 I would leave after the next losing spin. I remember a streak where I hit number after number and I got up to £936. The temptation was to hit the nice round figure of a grand but I have seen so many people lose the lot trying to hit that nice round number. I put the £36 on and lost so I collected the £900. My mate went on after me and hit nearly every one of my best numbers...leaving me to think what if but as hard as it is you can't think that way. Be happy with the profit and do something positive with it as it is free money. I used to feel just as pleased with a quick double up...in and out with a little pinch. ?

Enjoy the result and the break from gambling. ?

I posted on here a while ago about a workmate who had started on roulette with £20 and had a £2500 balance when I left him to go to work. He turned up later and I asked him how he finished up. He told me he had lost the whole balance! ? I said you must be gutted losing £2500 and his response was that he had only lost £20! He walked into the bookies with £100 and left with £80! That is how a true gambler thinks and to him he has no problem with it. Me....I would have been devasted but then I never would have got the balance anywhere near for fear of losing the lot. We are all different and we all have our own approach to gambling. Its trying to keep a level head but its not easy for everyone.

I think as gamblers we all remember the highest point which we reach and then regret when we cash out less and kind of feel bad about it when we give some back however we forget when we carry on and the high point goes up.  At the end of the day it is what we cash out and what we do with it that matters.

There is an old stockmarket saying the only two things are the price you paid for a share and the price at which you sell anything that happens in between is irrelevant to the final result.

Be positive that you managed to cash out a good amount tho I would be wary of he fact that you were encouraged to bet when you were under the influence.  I always advise locking accounts for 24 hours if going on the lash.

Thanks for the feedback troops, closed the account which is probably the final one that has avoided Gamstop. Going to focus on convincing forum users against joining Curacao casinos.

Please do. You've made them sound pretty appealing over your last couple of sessions ? congrats btw, now step away from the Curacao

@Blacko Its the gamblers mentality of the pointlessness of hindsight! Its always what could have been, had I done these numbers, had I not switched, had I logged in 2 mins earlier etc! But like others have said think about the big positive of the withdrawal and that quite easily this thread could have been "I was upto £2400 and lost it all!"

£1900 get the fudge in there and treat the missus to a vegan pie!

I'd say neither. Could of continued - many would - which would apply to both greed and addiction, you didn't.

Personally not at all keen on the popular just 'think about the positives' approach. An honest reflection on a situation cannot be done by merely focusing on what you got away with (this time).

Think you have done the right thing Blacko. Recognised problems, asked for the opinion of others and took appropriate action by closing the account.

Instead of just the positives think also about why you joined GamStop in the first place.

This thread encapsulates the essence of a Gamblers mind. All the posts offer a different perspective of the day to day mind of a Gambler. Two important points have been made.

1. When you win large amounts the money seems to have no value and therefore you don't treat it with respect --- result you lose.

2. When you are winning , then there s always a point where needs are met ,and greed steps into the game. So set an amount to take , and then continue with the remainder, and be happy to lose it.

use a strategy ... and as @MrUKHackz says ---- you've won 1900 , and thats all that matters... is a valid point. NEVER LOOK BACK OR REGRET YOUR ACTIONS .

How much chocolate consumption is acceptable??

One snickers bar ( not a duo) one galaxy bar ( pound big one from petrol garage) and a twirl ( celebration size). ?
