Guest Jake.

This is taken from the NHS website . Are you a problem gambler?

  • Do you bet more than you can afford to lose?
  • Do you need to gamble with larger amounts of money to get the same feeling?
  • Have you tried to win back money you have lost (chasing losses)?
  • Have you borrowed money or sold anything to get money to gamble?
  • Have you wondered whether you have a problem with gambling?
  • Has your gambling caused you any health problems, including feelings of stress or anxiety?
  • Have other people criticised your betting or told you that you had a gambling problem (regardless of whether or not you thought it was true)?
  • Has your gambling caused any financial problems for you or your household?
  • Have you ever felt guilty about the way you gamble or what happens when you gamble?

Score 0 for each time you answer "never"
Score 1 for each time you answer "sometimes"
Score 2 for each time you answer "most of the time"
Score 3 for each time you answer "almost always"

If your total score is 8 or higher, you may be a problem gambler.

another question that should be added ;-

have you ever lied to people/partners to cover up your gambling ?

i know i did on a daily basis , its certainly nothing to be proud of , but i believe problem gamblers eventually end up becoming compulsive liers , it just goes with the territory im afraid .

Spot on shades. I could have answered most of them questions yes in the past if I was being honest. As you say nothing to be proud of but if gambling gets a hold on you it's very difficult to break the downward cycle

Even though I am up in March still by 7.5k even after losing 2,250 tonight , I've decided Gambling is not for me as I get far too anxious when gambling full stop.

Really not for me anymore.

Good to make the decision whilst in profit. Good luck mate

Cheers Bud, Just decided its not for me.. Very up and down last year and I don't really exactly enjoy it... Especially when doing 1.1k spins on the devil wheel and seeing rigged bounces on the wheel.

Definitely time to quit if you're not enjoying it. All the best

I had a toe operation a few weeks ago and was handed 3 things just before they let me go home, they handed me 4 dressings and a leaflet on care and a prescription to hand in to my Doctor for more dressings.

The prescription was for 10 dressings but the leaflet of care states my wound will take approximately 7-8 weeks before it stops weeping and to change the dressing every 2 days

So 14 dressings in total to cover 7-8 weeks

They should learn to count before they put up a score system for gambling

Should they have gave me 14 dressings @ 8/1 or 20 dressings @ 9/2 -  Or 24 Dressings at 5/4  Fav

I only Gamble to stop the voices in my head

great point I think one of the biggest indications of any addiction wether it is drink drugs gambling is  being deceitful to people we care for and would usually not lie too

Welshman, If you do want to stop then there has (genuinely) never been a better time. With so many traditional gambling outlets closed (pubs, bookies & casinos), you ONLY have to worry about online gambling. Gamstop will take care of that and, as an added layer of protection, why not withdraw and keep any spare money in cash. You can still use cash in most places but it's virtually impossible to lose it gambling at the moment. Obviously this will change but it buys you some time to get other blocks in place. If you genuinely want to make a start then don't hesitate to message me any time. All the best - Phil

It is said that it takes 21 days to break a habit of anything habitual and for some instances this is true. For gambling addiction it is a life long journey along with alcoholism.

For anyone with gambling addiction impacting time, relationships, work ... the list goes on then use the triangle method.

Reach out, cut off the time money and location and tell your loved ones and friends.

I agree.

From my experience, quitting gambling will obviously take more than 21 days, that's for sure.

I would say that if you can stay 1 year gamble free, I promise to anyone who want to be free from this evil addiction that they will get amazing results in their lives.

Yes, I've said only 1 year gamble free in order to change your life for the better.

But you will have to be careful for the rest of your life because you won't be cured from gambling. You have to life without gambling.
