philinvicta
I have been watching the documentary on the "Big freeze" of 1962/63. At least in those days we had coal and wood open fires to provide heat . I doubt if we got a similar event nowadays that the infrastructure would cope at all not to mention all those batteries in electric vehicles. The trains were steam trains and even though many froze solid at least you could light a fire under them and get them going ! There was a bad winter in 1947 before this and I remember some bad snow in my younger days even if for much shorter periods but have not seen anything for many years. Indeed in Ireland there is often excitement at the prospect of any snow falling. No more winter fayres on the frozen Thames like there were in Victorian times. May be of interest to someone

Do you miss them Phil The hole in the ozone was no doubt partly the result of the Industrial Revolution.
david1111
For global warming to be reduced every country needs to be on board, but that's not going to happen. It's quite alarming when you hear of 1000s of tons of blocks of ice in Antarctica breaking off. It's hard to comprehend. However many of 100s of years it will take no doubt the world will be the orchestrators of their own destruction

I am sure to a certain degree that man is responsible for some global warming but I am not sure that we can do anything to stop the changes to the climate unless they reduce the world population dramatically. Climate change has gone on all through the planets history. If that Yellowstone volcano goes bang the amount of stuff thrown into the atmosphere will change the climate for a very long time in a similar way the asteroid that hit to wipe out the dinosaurs caused a climate change of severe consequence. I can say I leave very little carbon footprint I shop and work locally take the bus if I want to travel and only fly every 2 or 3 years and I also recycle as much as possible. i do not have wardrobes full of clothes either, I imagine my carbon footprint is a fraction of a climate change preacher like Prince Harry et al who leave huge carbon footprints travelling the world to tell us what we are doing wrong!. A lot worse in other places with red warnings
