There are a lot of pensioners on the breadline but there are a helluva lot with nice pensions, do a lot of them need a heating allowance sitting on a cruise ship. It’s robbing Peter to pay Paul as the junior doctors are now to receive the extra salary they work for. I heard an interview with financial analysts on radio Scotland last week, they reckon the next budget is going to be eye watering particularly hammering local authorities funding. I don’t blame you for staying in Ireland. No from what I understand they have said if you do not get pension credit you cannot have the Winter fuel allowance. This means some people on low incomes will not get it. They might tweek it but that is the way it stands now. They are also likely to cut pension contribution relief and there is talk they will force pension funds to invest in the government pet projects as well. I can see wealthy people relocating there pension funds outside the UK as well as taking lower incomes from their businesses having taken enough out to last them a good while since Labour came to power. As I said I could see a Labour government struggling to deal with the public finances and thus they will keep hitting the ordinary working man harder and harder to pay for their spending
philinvicta
I also saw him trying to justify early prisoner release so that the rioters could be locked up. Moaning that the Conservatives did not build enough prison space despite giving longer sentences. The whole thing is madness. I am surprised that someone did not point out that plenty of Post Office people were wrongly locked up in the time he was Crown Prosecutor by the the Post Office private prosecutions which he could have stopped. philinvicta
Some cases from when Starmer was head of the CPP https://www.express.co.uk/news/politics/1853536/post-office-kier-starmer-jimmy-savile-comment plenty not prosecuted compared to the "rioters must go to prison" attitude he has now
philinvicta
I also saw a vlog that was saying Starmer is trying to stop members of the Labour party and Unions voting in the leader of the party
philinvicta
A piece by Harry on why the farmers are screaming after the budget. Like he says this will just benefit those richer people who are doing tax planning and buying up farmland to avoid inheritance tax. A similar thing is happening in Ireland and in the last budget here they tried to bring in rules to counter act the rich folks i and it had to be dropped for further review as it was pointed out the way it was drafted totally screwed ordinary farmers. I expected that it would mean land prices would fall because as is pointed out the return on the capital employed is ridiculously small but Harry says land prices will remain high as richer folk buy up the land to avoid inheritance tax and ironically they will probably get it from a farmer who has been lumbered with a bloody great inheritance tax bill ! I did not realise until seeing this that Dyson is the biggest farmer in the UK. I had seen something on him in the past owning a lot of land but now I understand why he was doing it. Not interested in the farming per se just using a loophole to avoid the death taxes.
philinvicta
We had an election in Ireland yesterday and as mad as things are in UK with Labour Ireland has a huge budget surplus and it looks like the current coalition may get back in. We have some serious problems in the country like Housing health and record homelessness despite all the money. Those of you who have seen the film about the murder of Veronica Guerin the Irish journalist may remember "The Monk" who is a guy called Gerry Hutch his Wikipedia page here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerry_Hutch In recent times he has even been in a battle with the Kinehans with many people killed Amazingly he is close to getting a seat as an independent in the Irish Parliament !

Not being disrespectful to the Irish Phil but they are on par with the Sicilians if Gerry Hutch wins a seat in the Irish Parliament. The killing of a female journalist is way off bounds also, well it is usually with exceptions of Dando.

When you vote you put an order of preference and then your vote can be redistributed once to a second candidate, This is Dublin Central constituency for anyone interested https://www.rte.ie/news/election-24/results/#/dublin-central Mary Lou McDonald is the Sinn Fein Leader who got in first
