philinvicta
Only taken three years to come up with the report and despite saying that they are not trying to restrict how much of their income people can gamble the limits are set at a loss of 125 in a month and 500 in a year. Many people would do more than that on a spin at roulette imagine one spin and it loses and account is put on lock out until they can do their research against you. Even suggest only half that limit for under 24. I used to have more money when I was 24 than I do now ffs. Loads of kids in Dublin working for the tech giants on massive salaries paying huge rents and they are told they cannot lose a few hundred on gambling Cannot be coincidence that not too far below this link on the Gambling Commission web site is a report on raiding a spieler. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/high-stakes-gambling-reform-for-the-digital-age/high-stakes-gambling-reform-for-the-digital-age. Also not a coincidence that with all the pfaffing about by the government that the levy and media rights income is falling as gamblers get fed up so much so that the Jockey Club race courses cut their prizemoney for this year at a time when owners are leaving in their droves and field sizes are getting smaller all the time.
Solario333
Remarkably the proposed government white paper will singularly close down all bookmakers , all racecourses and the racing fraternity will be gone forever ... I personally am totally aware that bookmakers , land based , are ripping off the punter entirely and obviously as some FOBTs are RTP 80% ish and this is absolute robbery . So once they all close , since £125 a month , or even a week will close them all . They are greedy . narrow and cynically taking every penny from the punter . However Horses and dogs are a wonderful and wholly enjoyable activity for many of us who have retired . So once again I will have to go online and put my faith in the iniquity that is there instead , or give up completely . ..... a sad state of affairs . or open a local poker club ... 2
david1111
@philinvicta good to see you Phil. Hope you are well. I did read a little about this. The limits are ridiculous and not sustainable for the punter or bookmaker. Are the limits increased for anyone who can provide SOW. Gambling will go underground and illegal. Its already started with quite a number of whatsapp bookies accepting bets which gets around the restrictions. Imo the government are clueless on this subject

The crazy thing is despite the FOBT disaster the proposals include allowing more slots in casinos transferring unused license allocations from one district to another so there are more casinos and even allowing larger casino operators to allow credit for big spending International clients so they can compete and also allowing people to play using debit cards on slot machines. Really looks like the casino operators made a far better job of representing their interests than bookmakers and horse racing did as there overall take is expected to increase

To be honest if the tracks went about it in the right way they would entice punters back on the course with lower entry fees and once again get the betting rings in action with punters and bookmakers like in the days before the abolishment of off course betting tax, If the tracks put on a proper horse show they will get a loyal clientele again. I was at a York meeting and they had students bussed in from 3 or 4 universities thousands off them. Thye put up a special marquee but they were there for the racing not all the rubbish of putting on pop acts etc after racing

philinvicta
If the government was serious they would do as The Bandit says and stop all music and gimmicky noises when playing slots . I am pretty sure that people would play them for much shorter periods of time and it would also make them less attractive to youngsters. They should also bring in a minimum RTP of over 95% . This is unlikely due to the amount they make from machine licenses Edited April 9, 2024 by philinvicta

You can't move and even struggle to get a drink without missing a race. It's no fun unless that's why you have gone purely for the drink

There were a lot of people who went off to the Canaries had a few drinks in the bars and betting online ( or no doubt with an illegal bookie on site) for a fraction of the price
