  1. All in one : My story from the start!! My name is Antonin, I'm 25 years old, I come from France ?? and I am a compulsive gambler in recovery (6 months gamble free) My life has never been easy for me because as a kid I was a bit shy and I never had many friend because of that I had a lack of confidence in myself I didn't want to talk to anybody and the only thing I wanted to do was to go on my computer and play video games I had a gaming ? addiction, the only game I wanted to play was FIFA 07 to 14 (song) (completly stopped at 19 years old) I always thought nobody was like me ? At school before 15 years old, while everyone enjoyed to play sports and talk to each other, I used to stay on my own I thought that I could never be a "normal" person ? At 15 years old, I used to talk ?️ a bit more and I had some really good friends I used to play soccer a lot, I was very good at it Some people wanted me to play in a club but I was still a bit shy so I never did When I look back now, I regret it ... ? ? At 20 years old, One day, my father told me : "Antonin, if you want to do something with your life you must learn English ???????, it's very useful" Few months later after we found a place where to go, I was in england to learn the language No need to tell you how hard it was to speak english but I had no choice and I should manage this on my own After 7 months over there, I'm not bilingual yet but I can have a conversation with an english person So, I came back to France ... ? At 21 years old, After all these years, I've experienced traumas in childhood including : Parents getting divorced ?? and Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) ? I found a job so I could earn my own money but I was introduced to online gambling not long after my first pay check And here started the worst period of my life When I look back, I escalated into a compulsive gambler very quickly I had money in my bank that I could spend with no thought I had no idea what the gambling addiction was On a night I had been winning more than €6000, it was like a dream , I thought I could make a living from gambling ... I can still recall that high feeling I ended up losing it all. I always wanted to get it all back, no matter what I always chased my losses . I always thought I was smarter than the Casino I've spent all that time and energy gambling online, dealt with emotional lows of bad beats I sacrificed food and sleep. I was gambling to make some money As we all know, it doesn't work that way, it couldn't be the case ... I used to make large bets €400, €600, €1500 on a roulette spin. I was hoping for a hot streak. By then, I was usually exhausted and just really wanted to get my money back or losing it all More than often, I would lose it all ? I would always minimize my losses, saying I lost €400 when in reality that was €3000 At the end I lost arround 30k in total ? ? At 25 years old, ? 4 March 2019, I finally quit gambling, and since then my life has improved a lot When looking at the difficulties that I have faced I can see in retrospect that these challenges ultimately made me stronger and taught me some important lessons ** The benefits ** ?️ - I've got confident in myself and clearly a different person - Money ? in the bank to do whatever I want - Family now trusts me - I've plans - No more mood swings - More time to see my loved ones - More time to do hobbies I liked before (soccer, bike, design) But why I was gambling I was gambling in order to escape from negative emotions. These emotions include loneliness and boredom I was rushing off to my gambling site to "de-stress" after a hectic day at work Once the session had begun, this intense focus on play is a powerful distraction, and personal problems seemed to miraculously disappear Gambling is such an effective means of distraction, a powerful means of escape, that I didn't see my gambling as a problem in my life I believed it was a part of the solution ... The reality though, is that gambling plays a detrimental role in the lives of gamblers. It can cause a range of harms, financial, health issues and emotional problems Understanding why I couldn't stop once I had started is a crucial step in quitting gambling Every now and then, I get the urge to gamble but it's far less as it used be and now not a problem If I ever get the urge, I know the consequences and that's enough not to gamble Where I am now I'm living ultimately a better live The fact I quit gambling is a huge thing I don't get worried to pay my rent and bills I stay busy all the time so I don't think to gambling The peace I have now without gambling is enough to stay away from it A friend of mine couldn't believe how much I'd changed during all that time ? The message I have to tell to the compulsive gamblers : ? One thing that makes your dream become impossible : the fear of failure If your determination is fixed, I suggest you do not despair The great things are performed by perseverance Say to yourself every single day : "I can acheive EVERYTHING I want to do" It's not easy but you're better than that YOU want a better life but nothing can happen if you don't want it. Only you can change. I was like all of you, not better, not worst, I thought it was impossible to quit BUT I was wrong ... IT IS POSSIBLE TO QUIT!! To this day, ? 30 august 2019, I hope that anyone who suffers from this evil addiction gets the faith to quit Gambling ------ ------ ------ ------ ------ ------ ------ ------ This community TGC is now like a part of my life and I will always be thankful because I have met people that I couldn't ever met in my real life Well done and thanks to the owner of this site for making this happen @Rocknrolla. 3. Hi all, I am new here and I make videos on my YouTube channel about gambling, gambling addiction and self-help. I have recently started making gambling-only content, but I still kept my "problem gambling" videos on my channel.
  4. Hi, I am at present 50 years old, started gambling when I was about 8 years old. My first gamble was on the Swanage sea front in the sea front arcades on the penny pushers. Most years we went there for our holidays and after saving all my money through out the year, It would be the first place I'd hit. I didn't really start playing the slots until I was about 10 which at that time were only 1p and 2p a spin. Those were the days when you'd walk into an arcade and find loads of real slot machines with the lever on the side. Within an hour your arm felt like it was gonna drop off lol but hey, they were fun. When the local fairs came to town on the southampton common usually in the spring and summer I'd often go there just for the arcades. All of their machines never had much money in them and a lot of times if you win, you'd get a few coins drop out and then you'd hear nothing but clicks with no coins coming out as the tubes would run dry. They almost never give you your winnings either and say: "Sorry but we didn't see it". Those coin pushers were the machines that I think everyone at some point nudged and set off the alarm I mean it just has to be done lol. I think as the jackpots got bigger and the stakes got bigger over time it kind of killed the excitement (at least for me it did) . In the last 15 years I have been playing slots online where I fond they do seem to payout a lot more but can also take a lot more on a bad run. For me It was not winning the money but just the fun of playing and hitting those jackpots because it was like I have acheved something even for a a few moments. When playing in the arcades I did meet some good people but mostly grumpy bad losers. Since playing online I have met more people who I find to be easier to get along with and seem a lot less dramatic when losing. I have played roulette, blackjack, video slots, bingo and a few other crazy games with the slots being my all time favourites. I have won several jackpots on bingo 2 were one after the other in the same room . I have won countless progressive jackpots but nothing massive, mostly minors or majors. I have always found after winning a jackpot that no matter what slot you play after it will take it all back everytime. I seem to come from a family who are mostly gamblers with just the odd one or two who dont really gamble. I too have had some major issues with gambling along with my brother who no longer gambles at all. Now for me I try to gamble only as a form of entertainment when I can afford it but always stop when I have either had enough or reached a point where I think I have deposited enough. I think this community is a good thing and I also appreciate very much Pauls channel. I have watched and listened to Paul on stream for sometime now and there is never a dull moment. I must confess, a lot of the reason I drift over to youtube is only to see if Paul has uploaded any new videos or to see if he is streaming. I can see he is a genuine guy with a generous heart and only hope other people do not try to take an advantage of that. I am not much of a chin wagger in chat but prefer to sit back and enjoy the stream plus reading everyone elses chat. Just wanted to introduce myself, share some of my history as a gambler and to show my appreciation to this community. thanks
  5. If you have a few minutes, a brief video on my addiction. Please give it a watch if you time.. Thank you

    Liz

Hi there! My name's Liz and I'm a PhD student at Nottingham Trent University (UK) I'm researching how people use online sports betting features (e.g., in-play betting, cash out) and the perceived impact of gambling advertising. I'm looking different types of sports bettors to help with my questionnaire (10-15mins). If anyone here who bets on football (and/or other sports) is interested in taking part it would be really appreciated. There is a prize draw giving away 5X£50 Amazon vouchers. I don't think I'm allowed to post the link on here but if anyone is interested in taking I'll try to send you a link. Thanks in advance.
  7. I for one have greatly enjoyed the last few streams .over the last week as a massively welcome break from the corona virus news which is everywhere. Paul has with his usual style made some very entertaining footage of bonus hunts , mostly not paying too well , but the odd one doing very well , and only ruined the end of yesterdays stream by playing Lightning roulette ,which should be banned , so crooked it is . All said the old favourites , like DHV, DOA. Steamtower and Madame destiny all played a part , along with many of the newer slots like Lil Devil , and Jammin Jars..... so great stuff ......
  8. We are blessed in the United kingdom that we have a tolerant and forgiving society. Sometimes our tolerance is taken for weakness . We have endured years of political farce and obdurate cynicism from our political leaders , whose selfish and narrow perspective has cast a shadow on our daily lives . Now we strive to put it behind us and our leaders will test the nation again... As we approach the Christmas we each deserve let us give a thought for those who have nothing ,and give freely to help those who cannot help themselves. Of course we shall not help those whose sole aim in life s simply to bleed us dry , but we will indeed help those whose misfortune is the result of calamity , not indifference. The world is now entering uncharted waters and the chaos of Brexit is far from over ,as Europe will no doubt find some other ways of delaying our eventual departure. Here on TGC we are sheltered from the worst of the political nightmare by living in a different area of choice and may move forward in 2020 regardless of external influences. Our Influences are the day to day happenings and events that make us what we are today. A diverse and life experienced group of kind individuals who seek to make life just a little better by sharing our days together. This is a unique and beneficial arrangement when applied through consent , but lapses from time to time into degenerate and personal attacks which make us less worthy of our intent. Let us try in 2020 to have a more harmonious approach to each other and continue the fun and banter that has been so ably created by our many members ,who look for the better , not for the worse, in each thread. This forum has had a great year , and 2020 will be much better , for we are learning how to live in peace, despite our differences. We become so much stronger through our differences than through our divisions. I send you all the Love in the world and hope you all have a wonderful christmas , and a beautiful New Year.

  17. Irish government to establish new gambling regulator 21 March 2019 The Republic of Ireland Government has set out plans to form a new gambling regulatory authority with oversight of the country's online and land-based market. An Inter-Departmental Working Group has published a new report on the issue, in which it focuses on the future licensing and regulation of gambling in Ireland. In the report, Minister of State David Stanton says Ireland is currently applying a “mid-20th century approach” to gambling activities and not taking into account the advances in digital technologies in recent years. Stanton said comprehensive reform of the industry is required in order to bring the market up to date, but this will not be possible without establishing a new independent regulatory authority. Current Irish legislation does not provide for a coherent licensing and regulatory approach to gambling aside from specific legislation governing the country's National Lottery, the report noted, with oversight for the sector divided between a number of government departments and agencies. This body would assume responsibility for regulation of the Irish market, which would include awarding licences to operators that want to offer gaming services in the country. The regulator would also have enforcement powers, such as the ability to impose fines on operators and suspend or revoke licences. The new authority would also be responsible for the management of a social fund and subsequent disbursement of monies to approved addiction treatment centres and organisations, as well as raising awareness of gambling-related issues, carrying out industry research and running educational initiatives. In addition, the regulatory body would act as the lead Irish agency in European Union and cross-border cooperation in combating betting-related match-fixing and money laundering. It is intended that the authority would be funded primarily from fees and levies on regulated gambling activities in Ireland. “As the gambling industry changes, and indeed as the demographics and motivations of its customers change, so must the State’s licensing and regulatory approach,” Stanton said in the report. “The Working Group is firmly of the view that without a new independent regulatory authority of sufficient scale, the comprehensive reform required will not be possible. “Effective modern licensing, regulation and monitoring of the gambling industry will come at a cost. The Working Group concludes nevertheless that such an authority can in time be substantially self-financing, through income from licence and other fees charged to gambling operators.” The Irish Bookmakers Association (IBA), the representative body for betting operators in Ireland, has welcomed the new report. Chairperson Sharon Byrne said the new regulatory authority should be introduced as soon as possible. Byne added: “We are hopeful that this will be the final step towards completion and enactment of a Gambling Control bill and independent regulator. Our members have already introduced many of the advertising standards, customer monitoring and customer protection measures recommended by regulators in other countries. “An independent regulator and gambling control bill, will ensure enforcement and compliance by all gambling operators, not just betting shops, which will lead to better consumer protections and support for those who may be vulnerable to addiction.” *Citation from here
